Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has endured a torrid year, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the American major.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in particular - led to him falling of the top ten and finally separating with long-time trainer Cervara.

Presently training with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's maiden title after the Rome competition and first on a hard surface since March of that year.

Victory also indicates he has secured 21 victories at 21 different competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my children simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is really nice," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his past six finals, including in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive play style and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had led observers to doubt if his skill to perform at the highest level was over.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, attempting to approach the net and compete assertively, supported by an better service.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult opponent, securing 4 of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his first professional title, gained dominance to create a decider.

Moutet defended four early-game break points in a tight deciding set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, he secured victory with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
